Enhance the edges of your raised patio with Jouplast® edging solutions

Building a raised patio is quick and easy, but what about its edges? How can you ensure a neat finish on the sides of your elevated patio?

To embellish your patio edge finish, Jouplast® offers a range of clip-on finishing profiles, an essential accessory to obtain an attractive and clean result. Our clip-on edging for raised patios is easy to install and ensures a simple yet perfect finish.

Jouplast®’s clip-on finishing profiles are a practical and durable solution for concealing the pedestals and finishing the edges of your outdoor patio. Thanks to their simple and effective clip-on system, they attach easily to the edge of the pedestals, creating a neat and attractive border. Edging a raised patio also ensures child safety, as there are no sharp edges, which could give the impression of a neglected, unfinished patio and, moreover, be very dangerous. Edge protection also offers a highly appreciated aesthetic appearance.

Our range of products includes several colours, such as RAL 7016 anthracite grey lacquer, aluminium grey lacquer and RAL 1013 pearl white lacquer, to complement the very fashionable travertine-style slabs.

We also offer 3 different heights depending on the gap to be bridged: 70mm, 100mm or 140mm.

All our accessories for raised patio edging, such as external corners, internal corners and connectors, are available in various colours and heights, offering maximum customisation of your patio’s borders.

Our side finishing profiles are compatible with all paved patios, but not with natural timber decking, to complete the design of your outdoor space. For raised decking, we offer options using our side finishing plate.

How to edge a raised patio: step-by-step

In order to install patio edging, you will need to add a side finishing plate and a securing clip to all the pedestals on the sides of your patio and against the wall of your house. We also recommend adding a side finishing plate support kit to support the decking and prevent it from tipping over.

Fixing clip

Before placing the side finishing plates on each pedestal on the sides of the raised patio, you must first secure 1 fixing clip into a glue strap system. Use 1 clip per side finishing plate, 2 clips for the corners.

Securing clip

Clip the side finishing plate onto the top of the pedestal, with the clip facing outwards. Then, place a gripper isolation mat onto each side finishing plate at the edges of the patio and against the house.

Add the support kit

To provide additional support and prevent the decking from tipping over at the edge of the patio, you can add the support kit to secure it all and protect the edges. Assemble the kit before positioning it on the basis of the pedestal, then adjust the height.

Our outdoor landscaping experts are here to answer your questions.

1. What are the benefits of raised patio edging?

Adding a finishing touch to your raised patio or not depends mainly on whether you want a finished look. To help you visualise a patio with or without a side finish, imagine looking at your raised patio and the entire installation from the side. It does not look very attractive, and the result does not look professional. Another advantage of edging a raised patio is that it allows you to conceal cables and pipes beneath the patio. Finishing the edge of your patio is that little extra touch that makes all the difference, just as a professional would do.

2. What styles of patio edging are available?

We offer 2 types of edging finishes for paved patios. You can either choose an edge finish with cut tiles, using our side finishing plate and lateral riser support, or our clip-on finishing profiles.

The first option has the same finish as the rest of the patio cladding. However, it requires the right equipment to cut the slabs. A good water jet saw is essential. The task can be tricky when temperatures are below freezing, whereas installing a paved patio on pedestals is perfectly possible in freezing weather. You also need to be very precise to ensure the accuracy of the cuts.

The second option, using the clip-on side finishing profiles, has the advantage of being aesthetically pleasing, practical, and does not require tile cutting nor special tools. It is easy to install.

As for raised decking, it is possible to create the side finish using only our lateral riser support.

3. Which finish should you choose for your raised patio edging?

When it comes to your raised patio, the choice of one type of edge finish over another depends mainly on your personal taste in outdoor design :

  • For a look similar to a light or beige flooring, such as a travertine-effect finish, opt for the pearl white RAL 1013 profile.
  • For a look with darker, grey-toned shades, choose the anthracite grey RAL 7016 profile.
  • If you prefer an industrial or even metallic look, we recommend picking the aluminium grey profile range.
  • If you prefer to keep the same colour as the tiles used on the rest of your patio, then we recommend going for a finish with cut-to-size tiles and using a side finishing plate and lateral riser support.

4. On what types of structures should our patio edge finishes be installed?

All our solutions are suitable for any type of structure, whether it is on a balcony, a patio or a slope. For sloping ground, carefully choose self-levelling pedestals and make sure that they are adapted to the slope of your garden.

5. Can I install finishing profiles on a sloping or uneven ground?

Yes, our finishing profiles, side finishing plates and support kit are compatible with sloping or uneven ground.

In fact, it is not our finishing accessories that adapt to the slope, but the pedestal. By adjusting the pedestal’s range of adjustment, it is possible to compensate for a slope or uneven ground and thus complete the finish of your raised patio using our side finishing profiles, support kits and side finishing plates.

However, we strongly advise you to prepare your ground properly to ensure a flat, even surface without any unexpected issues caused by poorly managed slopes. For more details, watch our video on ground preparation.
